With one of the principles behind SALTT being to nudge ever further towards personal excellence, then these reviews are present some of the ideas in the self-help literature, and might prompt SALTT users to do some futher reading for themselves.
I have got into the habit of reading tons of books: self-help and the like. A little bit of them sink in and change my life for the better; most of it seems to fade with the morning mist. For me, and apart from bulking up this website’s content, the reviewing of what I have read has become a habit aimed at getting beyond the surface point of a book, and understanding the material I missed in the initial reading.
This review page, then, is a pretext for me to get my monies’ worth. But moreover, it is about exploring the existing personal development and mental wellbeing strategies, and that ancient wisdom that SALTT means to bring into focus.
The choice of reviews comes from the books which have helped me and mostly those I have recently read. Hence, the list is largly driven by TED talks and Amazon recomendations that have caught my eye.
I initially strived for deep-dives; then attempted blog length summaries, but in the end, the reviews just turned out to be the length that felt right. My reviewing habit is about 15 minutes a day, no more, so its a slow process and posts will be infrequent. However, I prefer to do it “organically”; that is without AI. AI has its uses, but doesn’t do my understanding for me.
